Tahiti Trot (Tea for Two) by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975)

Tea for Two is a foxtrot song from the tap dancing musical No, No, Nanette (1925) with music by Vincent Youmans. It is a duet sung by two young people in love who fantasize about their future: “...with tea for two and two for tea... just me for you and you for me... nobody near us to see us or hear us... can't you see how happy we will be..." Tea for Two was accidental orchestrated by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich under the title Tahiti Trot as one day in 1927 his close friend, the conductor Nikolai Malko visited him and bet him 100 rubles that he couldn't orchestrate the song after having heard it just once on a record. The composer won the bet by doing the complete orchestration successfully in under 45 minutes. Shostakovich's orchestral version was arranged for Gitarrissima by Krisztina Dobo.
